After surveying the site and with the client’s requirement’s in mind, PDS designed and proposed a new 19 section 11kV Hawker Siddeley Distribution Panel. The switchgear consisting of; 2 incoming sections, 1 bus section and 16 feeder sections was installed in a purpose built HV Switch room.

PDS were awarded the contract due to; our competitive tender, our full turnkey solution and the client having full confidence in our technical and engineering abilities. We were appointed the roles of both, Principal Designer (PD) and Principal Contractor (PC) for the project which was also subject to CDM Regulations.

The Burton plant plays a huge role in Pirelli’s global operations and the challenge for PDS, was to carry out a phased change-over onto the new 11kV Distribution Panel. We worked closely with the clients engineering department to ensure the changeover was a success. Power disruptions were minimised by utilising the site’s ring feeder systems as well as working unsociable hours. Working in this manner ensured we could maintain the clients manufacturing commitments. In line with our turnkey offer, we also carried out a large amount of civil engineering works, these were completed without causing any disruptions to the client’s operations.

For PDS, this scale of project has been a wonderful benchmark and clearly demonstrates our ability to successfully deliver complex projects both on time and within budget.
